Product Hightlight: Drink Mixes; a Guest Post

Tonight's post is from one of my very favorite people in this food storage / preparedness / prepping world.  Her name is Rachel Mano from Ready Home Store and she is the person that introduced me to Shelf Reliance and Thrive foods.  She also happens to live next door to my parents. She raises chickens, and one of my first (and favorite) memories of her is when I was walking on the path behind her house and she started waving and yelling at me to come over.  She kept saying "Come see our chickens!"   I think I'd met her once or twice, so at first I wasn't even sure she was talking to me, but there was no one else around.  So, the kids and I headed over.  She was so kind and so friendly.  Now that I know how incredibly busy she is, I am even more impressed that she was so open and kind and generous.  We spent a good 30 minutes there playing with the chickens and the kids each got to take one home in their front shirt pocket.  Micah promptly smashed his and got egg goo everywhere.  Funny.  My kids still remember this as well and every once in a while will ask if we can get chickens.  Most kids ask for a dog or something, mine as for chickens.  Thanks Rachel!

So a few month later I went to a Shelf Reliance party at Rachel's home.  She was incredible.  Her knowledge about these products was impressive and her passion about them was contagious.  I knew I wanted to do what she did: sell them, but I had to convince my husband first.  Rachel (and her husband Chad) patiently waited and answered my questions for months.  I am so very glad that I enrolled as a Shelf Reliance consultant with Rachel as my trainer.  It has been wonderful.  You can read more about her and find more of her tips on her blog: Ready Home Store

I asked her to write a guest post for me and left the topic up to her.  She chose to talk about ways to supplement your water storage.  I thought this worked well with this week's focus in the week by week survival kit series, so I decided to post it tonight.  Here is what she says:

Nothing is more satisfying than being able to store and have handy powdered drinks in your home store
Thrive offers a large variety flavor that are meant to satisfy. The flavors include fruit punch performance, mango passion, melon berry burst, orange bliss, orchard apple and simply peach. Each of these amazing drinks will provide you with added vitamins in your daily diet of Vitamin A and C. All use natural flavors and are enhanced with fruit and vegetable juices for color!
Why do I love these? Well, they taste great! But they bulk up my water storage.
When storing water you should consider storing around 6 gallons per person per day. Those 6 gallons will be used for drinking, washing, cooking and cleaning. If you've stored water before, you know that sometimes that taste isn't that great, especially if you've had to purify it. Water is even more important than food and so it's very essential to be able to store enough and drink enough every day to keep your organs and cells functioning at their optimum everyday. Without water, your organs would start to shut down in as little as 3 days.
Storing a powder like these will eliminate that stored-water taste, add much needed vitamins to your diet and be a light and fun treat.
Drink the fruit punch performance and replenish your electrolytes in a flash.
