Making this Blog More Well Rounded

I've started to feel like this blog is becoming a "Buy only THRIVE products for your home store and buy them from me" blog.  I'm afraid some of you may agree!

But that is not why I started this blog.  I started it to help those who were buying THRIVE learn how to use it.  I want to get back to that.  In fact, I want to expand into areas beyond THRIVE that will help empower you to become self reliant, prosperous and charitable just like I state at the bottom of each post.  This is what I plan on doing to help me stay focused on each of those three areas:

Self Reliance:
My goal here is to teach and motivate others to be less reliant on the grocery store by doing so myself and sharing my experiences.  But if we are to be truly independent of the grocery store, there are many things we should have in our own home stores that are not provided by Shelf Reliance's THRIVE line: paper goods and personal care items (like toilet paper or shampoo), convenience foods (like cereal or crackers), condiments, spices and herbs, emergency supplies etc.

I just took a quick glance at the items in my home store: many of them are not THRIVE foods.  THRIVE has become a huge and regularly used part of my home store.  I really do use it daily.  However, it has not eliminated my family's need for all other foods.  If I were to ever be forced to live on the items in my home store exclusively, I would want both my THRIVE foods and some of the other items I listed (especially toilet paper!)

I am going to start including more posts that have nothing to do with THRIVE, but everything to do with building Your Own Home Store.  Look for things like:
  • Couponing tips to help you build a supply of regularly used convenience foods (like cereal) for less.
  • Calculators and spreadsheets to help you decide what is important for your family to store.
  • Complete healthy meals from items (THRIVE and otherwise) that are shelf stable
  • Ways to use items from Your Own Home Store (THRIVE and otherwise) in your everyday recipes
  • Tips for stocking up on paper goods and personal care items without breaking the budget
  • Tips for storing your supply in small spaces
  • Storage life tips for various items you might have in Your Own Home Store
  • Tips for using grains and legumes more regularly in tasty ways
  • Items Shelf Reliance THRIVE offers that I still purchase elsewhere b/c they cost less
  • Gardening tips (in the future as I start my own garden next year)
  •  72 hour kit tips
  • Water storage ideas and tips
  • Preparedness Plans
I will continue to post about THRIVE. Their products are simply superior to anything else available and make storing dairy, meat, fats, fruits, and vegetables for long periods of time possible without sacrificing nutrition or taste.  That simply can't be beat.  So you will continue to see:
  • Tips for cooking and baking with THRIVE
  • Recipes made with THRIVE
  • THRIVE product highlights
  • Shelf Reliance Specials

Prosperous
I love that Shelf Reliance has chosen the business model that they have (direct sales) b/c it allows each of us (if we choose) to take part in their success and become financially self reliant and even prosperous.  The opportunity that they give to allow anyone to start their own business and sell these products is incredible.  I'm still amazed at how generous they are with their consultants and how willing they are to help us succeed.  I met with the VP and director of sales recently and they were willing to do so much to support and help me (and other consultants) in their businesses.  My husband worked in the direct selling industry for 8 years and this kind of support from corporate is unheard of.
As such, I will continue to post about the business opportunity  provided by Shelf Reliance on this blog because I truly believe (I'm living it) that it provides opportunity for those who are willing to work hard to become financially independent and even prosperous.

Chairitable
Shelf Reliance donates 5% of all their THRIVE profits to their own charity: Thriving Nations
Through this charity, Shelf Reliance helps families and communities around the world by teaching them essential agricultural techniques and economic principles which improve individuals' lives and expand their opportunities. These communities become more self-reliant and increase their joy and prosperity. The lessons they learn with Thriving Nations will empower them to create better lives for themselves and generations to come.

I've wanted to find a way to follow Shelf Reliance's example for some time now.  I finally found the perfect way when I read what my Shelf Reliance trainer, Rachel Mano is doing in her community.  I've decided to do something very similar.  I have committed to my local food bank that I will donate 50% of all the free product I earn each month.  I earn free product each time anyone makes a purchase in my online store.  That means that 5% of anything you purchase here will go back into my community!  I am so excited to be able to do this.  I will blog about my experience occasionally.

Hopefully, these changes will make my blog a bit more well rounded and beneficial to each of you.  Thank you for your support.  Please feel free to leave a comment if you have any other suggestions or requests!
