My Shelf Reliance Consultant Team: Introducting Francesca Hutchinson

Shelf Reliance products are sold through independent consultants.  Customers always get the best price by purchasing through an independent consultant.  I am an authorized independent consultant and I have a wonderful team of consultants that I work with, train and learn from.  They come from all over the United States and have widely varying backgrounds and motivations for joining Shelf Reliance.  If you would like, you can also join in my team of Shelf Reliance consultants.  I will do all I can to train and support you in making your business a success!

I would like to introduce you to a few of the best on my team.  You can read about everyone I've highlighted so far here.

Today I would like to introduce you to Francesca Hutchinson

A bit about Francesca ….
My earliest memory has to do with cooking, me cooking.  I was around three years old.  I climbed out of bed in the middle of the night, went downstairs to the kitchen and started cooking.  I melted butter in a metal measuring cup on the radiator.  I cracked eggs and actually got one into the tea kettle.  I know there was flour and sugar involved.  I know all of this because after I decided I was too tired to cook anymore I went back to bed and was rudely awakened by a screaming mother telling me all the things I used during my midnight cooking session. To this day I don’t understand why she wasn’t impressed by my efforts! Big Grin!

I’m the oldest of nine children and often had to do the cooking and create something out of very little. As much as I now love gourmet cooking I still completely enjoy going into the pantry and refrigerator and “inventing” something out of nothing. My youngest son, for some reason, always has to have a name for his food.  So I always have to create a name, usually something not very clever then just add Ala Francesca to the end of it and figure that should be good enough!

My career, oddly enough, has nothing to do with food.  I’ve been a computer programmer and Senior Systems Analyst for many many (too) many years.  I have a head for math, and numbers just fascinate me. I love the logic and the structure to take many different parts and make it all fit together and be useful for multiple outcomes. I love to gather all the details, calculate possible uses and problems then make it work. My job means that the people that use my end product never have a clue what goes into it, to get out of it what seems simple to them.  I don’t mind that at all.  It’s actually the same with cooking.

Most don’t understand what makes Osso Buco so delicious and what goes into making a perfect risotto!  Or how do you actually make beautiful Venetian Seven Layer Cookies and not pull your hair out?  As long as they enjoy the end result I am happy!
Along the way I did take many cooking courses and am a certified chocolatier
These are two of my hollow chocolate creations.

Why Francesca joined Shelf Reliance
When I was 19 years old I ended up taking custody of 5 of my siblings.  That was my first smack in the face that food storage IS a necessity in life.  But I was young and did not make it a priority.

Present day brings me to knowing I need to make food storage a priority.  I have a very strong feeling about it.  So I approached this with the same logic and research and testing as I do everything else.  That is how I found Shelf Reliance and Thrive freeze dried foods.

I determined my budget and bought a variety of Thrive foods, and let them sit.  That was silly looking back on it now. Just letting it sit? This was before Shelf Reliance had home parties and consultants to enable us to see and taste the foods.

About a year later I decided to buy a rotation shelf and get my food out of the boxes and onto a shelf to free up some storage space. A girlfriend mentioned she was having a home party and I could get a discount on my shelf.  When I found out how BIG the discount was I waited, impatiently, for her party.

I have to admit I barely listened to the consultants demo; I wasn’t interested in what she had to say as I had already done all my research. But then … I got to TASTE the food I had sitting in boxes!  When I had the Chicken Salad made with freeze dried chicken, onions and celery I was sold! I would have never known that started out as freeze dried.  I not only bought my shelf but many more food items.

Being the numbers person that I am, when I heard about the consultant program I very quickly realized that if I became a consultant and I was my own customer and I had my own party I could order from my party the food I was going to buy anyway and that I would save me $$$.  I was excited!

Things just snowballed from there.  I started with totally selfish reasons of just taking care of my family and it quickly grew into me teaching and cooking for others so they could learn about these wonderful products and help their families become more prepared and less dependent upon the grocery stores!
The more we can save money, feed our families nutritious food, prepare ourselves and our friends and neighbors the better off we ALL are. That too makes me happy!

Homemade cream soup from THRIVE foods

Would you like to be able to make your own healthier, preservative free, homemade cream soups?  Do you use them regularly?  How many cans in 1 year?  Do you have that many cans stored?  Did you know you can make your own with THRIVE?

I got these recipes (and then modified them a bit) from Heather over at Cooking with my Food Storage.  Thanks Heather!

One idea would be to multiply this recipe by 5-10 and keep a bag or jar of it handy.  Then, just scoop out 1 1/2 cup dry mix and add 1 1/4 cup water each time you need a can.

One can Cream of Chicken Soup:
Mix all ingredients together with a wire whisk over medium high heat.  Cook and stir until thickened.  Use as you would the canned product.

One can Cream of Mushroom Soup:
Mix all ingredients together with a wire whisk over medium high heat.  Cook and stir until thickened.  Use as you would the canned product.

New Shelf Reliance THRIVE buckets + New Products!

Shelf Reliance has released 17 products in a "bucket" size.  Each bucket holds the equivalent of about 8 #10 cans.  They are priced so that you pay less per serving by ordering these products in buckets.  Many of these products are staples that you may go through quickly.  I know I go through a #10 can of flour in about a week!  So, having them available in this larger size will be nice: especially since they are delivered right to your door (no more lifting them into a shopping cart and then dragging them from your car to your home) and packaged to last for years.  You can learn more at Shelf Reliance.

The products available in bucket sizes are listed below.  If you are on the Q, you can preorder these now.  If not, you will need to wait until Aug 1st to order them.

Black Beans
Hard White Winter Wheat
Instant White Rice
Kidney Beans
Lentils
Small White Navy Beans
White Flour
Pearled Barley
Pinto Beans
Quick Oats
Small Red Beans
White Rice
White Sugar
Whole Wheat Flour (red wheat)

There are also three new products that will be available in the bucket size:

Hard Red Wheat:
THRIVE Hard Red Wheat should be an essential grain in your kitchen pantry. Its bold flavor and rich color will give a distinct look and taste to your homemade breads. Hard winter wheat is a whole grain that provides many essential nutrients to keep you healthy and active. You can make THRIVE Hard Red Wheat into a delicious hot cereal or you can grind it in a wheat grinder to create nutritious breads, rolls, and other baked goods.  (Text from shelfreliance.com)

Oat Groats
THRIVE Oat Groats are a smart addition to your long-term food storage because they provide many essential nutrients that help you maintain an active lifestyle. Oat groats are easy to prepare and they go perfectly in salads and stuffing. You can also try serving them as a side dish instead of white or brown rice. (Text from shelfreliance.com)

Spelt
THRIVE Spelt is a beneficial whole grain that promotes a healthy lifestyle. Beneficial nutrients found in spelt, such as manganese and dietary fiber, work to regulate your digestive system and strengthen your cardiovascular health. Spelt can be used in a variety of ways. It can be boiled and eaten as a side dish or ground into flour for delicious and unique homemade bread. You can also try tossing cooked spelt into salads and cold pasta for a flavorful crunch.  (Text from shelfreliance.com)

The Best of THRIVE food Roundup

I know I said I wouldn't be back until late July, but I've found a little extra time tonight and a lot of great recipes using THRIVE food from all over the web.  I am so excited to try quite a few of these.  I wanted to keep you in the loop and just quickly let you know about them.

One of my main purposes in starting this blog was to make it simple for my customers (you!) to use the products they were purchasing from me.  I don't want to just tell you that Shelf Reliance THRIVE foods taste great and can save you time and money.  I want to show you that they are.  I post multiple recipes and product tips each week.

However, I am only one person and with my limited experience (and time), I could simply never show you all the different ways you could use THRIVE foods: there are SO many!  But lucky for us there are many incredible Shelf Reliance consultant's out there who come up with the most wonderful ideas for using THRIVE foods.

Here are some of my favorites from this last week:

From THRIVE-ing Momma:
  • Strawberry Preserves (could also make blackberry, peach, mango, raspberry...yum!)
  • Healthy Cheese Crackers (I tell everyone that our freeze dried cheddar tastes like cheez-its.  Well, Dani actually turned it into tasty, healthy, homemade cheez-its)

Family First

I am in the middle of trying to catch up from one vacation (4th of July with my husband's family) while trying to prep for and plan another vacation (2 weeks in Utah with both sides of the family and my almost 2 yr old's birthday).  My kids are watching too much TV while I frantically try to plan a birthday party and how to keep my kids occupied for a 14 hr car trip and plan a backpacking menu for my husband and run to swim lessons and the gym and make dinner and clean the house and do the laundry and hold trainings for my team and get a bunch of blog posts scheduled and and and and and...

So tonight I decided to forget the blog posts.  When I started this Shelf Reliance business I promised myself, my family and God that it would not come before my responsibilities as a wife and mother.  Tonight I am choosing to keep that promise.  So, I won't be posting again until I'm back from vacation at the very end of July.  Expect something before July 31st.  I will have a bunch to post about b/c my husband, his Dad and his brother are using THRIVE on their backpacking trip this next week.  I will have all the details of how that went as well as about 6 recipes I've made recently but not posted and some highlights of some of our emergency equipment and a few suggestions of things to do with your emergency water supply instead of just throwing it out every 6-12 months.

Thanks for supporting my blog and my business.  I will be back!

Misty

My Shelf Reliance Consultant Team: Introducing Lindsey Gordon

As you likely know if you are reading this blog, Shelf Reliance products are sold through independent consultants.  Customers always get the best price by purchasing through an independent consultant.  I am an independent consultant and I have a wonderful team of consultants that I work with, train and learn from.

I will be highlighting one a week or so for a while.  Today I would like to introduce you to Lindsey Gordon.

Why Lindsey joined Shelf Reliance:
I became a consultant with Shelf Reliance for a variety of reasons. I am a mother of two and the past few years I have been working as a part time substitute teacher. I would be gone for about 8 hours a day and make hardly any money. This just was not working for the family or me. I started researching direct sales companies and discovered Shelf Reliance through a friend of mine: Misty. I did a lot of research and realized that Shelf Reliance was the right fit for me. I can add to my family’s income, work from home, create my own home store, and educate others at the same time. I am really enjoying being a consultant, and I am here to help you discover how great Shelf Reliance is!

Lindsey's Favorite Products
Discovering Shelf Reliance’s products has been one of my family’s favorite things to do. I love their food line Thrive. I use their celery and onions all the time. They are precut and all I have to do is throw it into whatever I am cooking.  Also I love making granola using quick oats and freeze dried fruit.   It has also become a hit at my husband’s fire station. So far my family and I have loved eating Thrive products!

About Lindsey
A quick bit of info about me.  I am a wife of a firefighter/paramedic. We have two children, a boy and a girl. I went to California State University San Marcos and got my BA in Liberal Studies Elementary Education. I also received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.  I was a full time teacher for five years. I stopped teaching after the birth of my second child.  I have been a part time substitute teacher for the past three years. I currently serve on the PTA at my son’s school and the District PTA as well.  I enjoy my family, spending time outdoors, reading, and learning new things. Contact me if you are interested in Shelf Reliance!

THRIVE Broccoli, Cheddar and Sausage Muffins

Happy Independence Day!  I am so very grateful for the sacrifices that have been made by so many that allowed the formation and continuation of this county.  I am proud to be an American.

Don't forget about Shelf Reliance's Independence day sale!  Through July 4th (tomorrow), you can save up to 30% on over 30 products (including new consultant kits)!

I think these muffins work great for breakfast or dinner.  They were quick and easy to make.

The original recipe is from Jenny over at Picky Palate again.  She really comes up with some great stuff!  Sadly, I forgot to take pictures, so you will have to visit Picky Palate to see what these look like!

Preheat oven to 350
Mix egg powder, milk powder, water and cheese.  Let sit for at least 10 minutes.
Spray six muffin tins with non-stick spray.  Cut biscuits into triangles (you'll get about 8 from each biscuit) and place 6-10 triangles in each muffin tin (depending on the size of your muffin cups).  Sprinkle with a bit of salt and pepper.
Place broccoli and sausage evenly over biscuits in each cup.
Pour egg mixture evenly over each cup.  Make sure mixture gets all the way to the bottom (underneath the biscuit).  Use a fork if you need to.  Also make sure sausage and broccoli are covered in liquid. Let sit for another 5 minutes.
Bake for 28-32 minutes and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
